John - 3 possibilities for the battery running down: 1 - Battery is bad, 2 - Alternator is wired wrong, or 3 - Alternator itself is bad. First try removing the ground cable from the battery after you shut down. If the battery stays up overnight you know the battery is OK. Then disconnect the two auxiliary (terminals #1 and 2) wires at the alternator, leaving only the wire to the BAT terminal connected. If the battery now stays up overnight, you've got a wiring problem. If the battery still goes down, the problem's gotta be in the alternator. As for the carb problem, it shouldn't leak gas - running or stopped. Sounds like the dealer botched the rebuild. Surging/hunting could be caused by this. Could also be due to the mixture adjustments being outta whack, or to a stiff governor to carb linkage.
