That slotted piece (pump shaft coupler) is screwed onto the end of the hyd shaft. After you remove the coupler, the seal retainer will slide right off. To remove the coupler, grab it with a large pipe wrench and unscrew it off (it's a standard right hand thread). Once it breaks free the coupler usually will spin off easily by hand. To hold the pump shaft stationary, put the tranny in 5th gear and block the wheels, or engage the PTO then hold the PTO shaft from turning with another large pipe wrench. Or (my favorite...) is to remove the gear shift lever and use a BF screwdriver to work the shift rails to engage two gears (like R and 2) at once. This locks the tranny up tighter than a banker's heart! Just don't forget to set all the shift rails back to neutral (center) before replacing the shift lever...
