Bryce - You CAN use the large wire running to the generator, providing it's still in good condition: At the front end, connect the wire to the alternator "BAT" terminal. At the voltage regulator, disconnect the wires from the regulator BAT and GEN terminals, and connect those two wires together. (Be sure to tape the connection securely to prevent it from grounding!) You will now have the path from the alternator thru the ammeter to the battery. (Note: If your tractor was orginally positive ground, you will also need to swap connections at the ammeter - otherwise it will read backward...) Incidentally you don't need to ground the alternator - it will be adequately grounded through the mounting bracket.
