Hello Gary, if I am remembering right you have an H model? If everything is working right you will be able to start out from stop from any of the gears 1-5. Have started from stop in 5th gear pulling 200 gallon spray tank (yes, it was full of spray) before although it didnt like it much. Hope this info gets you out of your back yard. I do suggest that you practice in 1-4 gears though first if you arnt used to driving the H as the H has a pretty speedy road gear and you need a clear path once it winds up in 5th. Good luck!
