Actually the 6.9 & 7.3 IDI's were the worst... The true Powerstrokes haven't had the problem because the manual had the info. for the SCA in it. I change Mine every 50,000-55,000 mi. depending on how cold it is. Figures out to about every 1-1/2 yrs. Biggest problem is getting rid of the old antifreeze. You must be confused with the 1500 mile thing... Book says to add 6-8 Oz. SCA every 15,000 miles. As far as Powerstrokes cavitationg... check Dieselstop.com... Used to be forddiesel.com. Use the SCA.... and don't worry about cavitation. Couple gallons of the old antifreeze from My flush & refill last fall ended up in a Buddy's Cub Cadet tires.
