I've seen two solutions that I like. My brother in Michigan has a thermostatically controlled ceiling-mounted propane unit in his detached garage, with an "enable/disable" switch in the house. He turns the furnace on about 20 minues before he goes out to the garage. When I was living in North Carolina I had an oil-fired forced air furnace in a lean-to on the back of the barn, with a big duct along the center of the ceiling. I didn't install a remote switch because in NC I hardly ever used the furnace. One thing about open flames around gasoline - remember that raw gasoline fumes are heavier than air, so if you must have a flame keep it way off the floor. That's probably why the ceiling-mounted propane burners seem O.K. It would take a heck of a lot of gasoline fumes (with no way out) to build up to the level of the ceiling. Mark W.
