Restoring Binder Canvases

Pardon me asking this type of question on this forum, but it hasn't gotten a respose any where else. When the weather breaks this spring I'll begin restoring a McCormick-Deering Type 'E' grain binder. My question is about the canvases. They've been hanging in the attic of the old farm house without use for about 35 years. Is there some sort of conditioner to use to restore their pliability? Maybe something like a leather oil. I haven't gotten to them yet but I can imagine that they are pretty stiff. I would hate to ruin them once I get the binder working again. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
