I have no experience w/either one, but have been told by an old IH mechanic that in his opinion, the 400 gas was the least fuel efficient gas engine that IH ever built. He didn't know why, just said it was. If you are going to use it only to cut hay, why don't you look for an H or Super H. Dependable old fuel efficient tractors w/plenty of HP for a 9 foot mower. A haybine might need a little more HP though. (My $0.02 worth. jal-SD)
