Super M hyd fluid

I have a series two Super M with the hyd tank in front of the steering post where the battery usually is on an M. On right side of tank are two outlets. One for drawing oil by the live power pump and one for returning oil to the tank. Is that correct? Can I just run the tractor hooked up this way without a control valve hooked up? There are two outlets on the left side which I guess are to use with a valve. Also what oil does this unit take? I thought I had all the manuals for this tractor but must be missing something somewhere. Thanks for any help. Dick in Vermont.
