The 504 gas did not have sleeves, as some of the larger displacement gas engines did not. The 504 diesel did have dry sleeves. I know the 544 diesel had wet sleeves, I'm not sure about the 544 gas. For the most part, most of the engines had sleeves, some af the gas did not. The only diesel I'm aware of that did not have sleeves was the 550 V8. Not having sleeves is not a major drawback, just that if the cylinder walls are worn, the block needs over-bored just as an automotive type block.
