Is IH 686 good for much?

I saw an IH 686 diesel on way home from work today that was for sale. I didn't get to hear it run but I would assume it does. We are looking for a good tractor to be used primarily for making hay (haybine, baler) to replace our under-powered 464. Was the 686 a halfway decent tractor and would it be suitable for our needs? Also, what does one of these go for in the central Ohio area? Thanks
