49 cub magneto drive

Have been working on this cub and discovered slop in magneto. Further inspection showed the keyed drive slot on the shaft has what appears to be worn places on opposing sides. I've converted the old mag to a battery ign and can't seem to get any power in 3rd gear or when I have a plow in the ground. Could this have anything to do with it? Timing is advanced as far as it can go and still run. Points are set to 20 ths, plug gaps are 23 ths as recommended in the tuning specs. Any ideas or recommendations would be welcome at this point.
