B250 Clutch\Problem finally diagnosed

Posted by Michael Soldan on December 30, 2002 at 16:39:05 from (216.46.130.71):

We finally got at my rattling clutch pedal today and discovered the reason. One of the bolts on the clutch finger had come loose and worked out further than the others. We also discovered that the throw out bearing isn't a bearing but a fiber disc made of some kind of baked substance like bakelite. I got an entire throw out, yoke and the clutch cross shaft from Steve at Ontario Used Tractor Parts. I had to go to our local Case-I-H dealer to get two retaining clips that hold the carbon bearing in the yoke . I needed three anti rattle springs that go on the clutch fingers( there's 5 in a package at $7 each, the Case I-H parts book shows you need three and they retail them in packages of 5...isn't that something). Now that I spent the day rounding up parts a neighbour is going to split the tractor for me and rebuild the clutch mechanism. He has a well equiped shop and I can't really get time off work so what the heck. Steve at O.U.T.P thinks I could take a throw out bearing assembly from a 414 and put it in the B250. The B275 should be identical to the B250 so I'm not sure so I went with what I had..carbon bearing. I am hoping all goes well as this tractor has turned out to be a real great loader for in the barn. Small and manouvreable, easy on fuel and it starts in below zero weather......Mike in Exeter Ontario

Today's Featured Article - A City Guy's First Tractor - by Fred Hambrecht. After living in apartments in Atlanta for more years than I care to remember, the wife and I decided to move to the country. Humming "Green Acres is the place for me..." we purchased a 29 acre tract about 60 miles south of Atlanta. Next came the house, I could talk about that ordeal for another two weeks... But, I want to talk about my tractor! We didn't even own a lawnmower, and all of a sudden we had enough grass to feed all the starving children of the bovine world. Naturally, I talked ...
