I have to say that I learned a lot from Ira's comments.....Grandpa's 'H' has both the small and large tank, Dad always said that it burned kerosene, but now I see that 'distillate' is an entirely different animal. the H is a 41 model (or so I've been told), so it is probably primarily a distillate engine......Dad said it was originally set up to start on gasiline from the small tank, then switch over when it got hot.........it has the shutters (yeah, good luck getting them to work after all these years, eh?) and the temperature gauge never budges from the bottom of the dial.........one day I'll have to mix up some 'distillate' from gasoline, kerosene, and diesel, and give it a shot. Thanks again to Ira for an extremely informative post!
