Touch control leak

O-ring has worn a groove on the shaft, allowing leakage of hyd fluid into the crankcase. Speedi sleeve won't work because of lack of clearance between the sleeve and the housing. Since it's the weekend, I haven't taken it to a machine shop. Has anyone had this shaft welded, etc, and turned down to the proper diameter? Don't know if it can be done with the gear on the shaft--is the gear pressed on, and can it be removed and reinstalled? I thought about filling the groove with a product such as JB Weld and sanding it down, but donn't see how that can last very long.
