In the process of "cracking" crude oil several products are produced and so furnace oil, gasolene, kerosene, diesel fuel are some of these. In the 20's and 30's tractor manufacturers wanted their machines to run on distillates which consisted mainly of kerosene but because the distilling process was not quite as acurrate as todays, the Kerosene or distillate was different than any thing we can find today. Through the 40's and war years kerosene was the cheap and abundant alternative to gasolene which was needed for the war effort, so many manufacturers developed low compression engines that ran well on distillates. Todays Kerosene is highly refined and does not compare to the distillates of the past. I have two distillate tractors that I want to run on distillates so I will have to experiment with a mixture..gasolene/diesel/kerosene..1:3:2 or1:3:3..at any rate it won't hurt anything as the concoction will still be less volatile than gasolene which the tractors have run on for the past 40 or 50 years. There have been a number of discussions about this..check the archives. Hope this answered your question..Mike in Exeter Ontario

Elliott said while this
