Some of the big standards (like our WD-9) came from the factory with the U actually made from a piece of stock of the same thickness and width as the swinging drawbar and was bolted to the swinging drawbar by two very large bolts (don't recall their size but probably 3/4 or 1 inch) and the wear was fairly rapid on both the U and the stationary drawbar when using heavy tillage implements and letting the drawbar swing for easier turning. We tried some grease to ease wear but that was worse because it attracted dirt.
