Hi Hugh! Congratulations on your new aquisition; you are getting quite a fine herd of offset tractors ! I agree with Jamie that its supposed to be a six volt system, (my neighbour has one of the same vintage,bought new in `62)The fact that the battery was connected backwards for a period of time worrys me.There could be damage to either/or your generator or your voltage regulator,thus no reading on your voltmeter or your ammeter.You might have to get them checked out somewhere.One other thought concerning the battery;before converting the Ferguson to 12 volt i used charge up the battery in the basement so it was at its best potential for cold weather (like today!) cranking. If the generator has to be rebuilt, get hold of me; i have a good local lead (no pun intended!) Good Luck
