I redid the front end of my H last spring. After I spent two hours and several knuckles on the top bushing I decided the lower bushing didn't look so bad, left it alone. I regret that moment of weakness regularly. Anyway, I did read a lot of advice here about taking that bushing out, most involved a variety of methods for cutting length-wise through either one side or two using a hacksaw blade, triangular file or similar. All stressed cutting only the bushing, not into the housing.
