Farmall H thermostat

I decided to replace the origional thermostat and the hoses in my H . I took (Chiseled ) it out. The new one is different, I want to make sure I put it in correctly. I think The pointed end goes down, the pipe part goes up into the thermostat housing. I put the thermostat housing in the parts washer I noticed that where I think the pipe goes (center of housing) doesn't drain, is it plugged? I also noticed that I have a lot of scales inside the cooling system but I don't want to do much about them because I may cause a problem. On the gaskets should I put a little RTV on them? Last I was wondering if I can use Cat antifreeze with coolant conditioner in it or should I use a regular one like Prestone that was in it? Thanks.
