Here in New Jersey hitting deer is a state sponsered method of population control (for the deer). There are three full-time contractors who do nothing but drive around and collect dead deer along the roads. Thats what dies at the scene, anything that gets up and runs into the woods is just a bad smell in a couple of days. Estimates(mine)say they pick up 30-40 THOUSAND deer in a year. Hunters took about 52,000 last year.
