In many ways the rear blade is quite versatile, but it is still behind you no matter how you approach the job a hand. If your blade will pivot the full 360 degrees, can be quite useful pulling snow away from buildings, then turn it the other way for pushing. In residential areas with short drive ways rear blade is probably the best. I have a rural, long drive way and find a blade on both ends useful. Rear blade is great for getting snow out of corners, serves as a great counter weight when using front blade. Lets face it if you have the long drivway, looking behind with heavy clothing on, for extended periods not very pleasant. I can also extend my rear blade out to one side giving me a wider swipe on the long drive way. I think so much of this depends on your individual situation. Matter of matching equipment to what you want to do.
