My Super-a was cranking slow even on 12v. I cleaned the starter armature, put in new brushes, basicly rebuilt it and now it spins at one million rpm! And this was with crummy battery cables. I've seen battery cables corroded down the entire lenght of the cable so make sure you got good ones.
