W-6 steering gear free play

I have a W-6 with a steering gear that over the years has developed so much free play it is not safe to drive on the road anymore. Is there a thrust bearing that wears out. Or is there something that can be adjusted to make up for wear. Can you still get parts. Any pictures of this assembly on line? Thanks Venda
