SM cam gear again

I removed front cover and checked cam gear. The retaining nut was about ready to fall off. I removed it by hand. Had a about fourteen or fifteen broken teeth on gear. My question is, Will locktite on the nut be enough to hold the gear on? I pulled the radiator off but left the front end and bolster on. Looks like I can change gear this way. That wide front end looks heavy, heavy. Thanks Dick in Vermont.
