I should qualify my earlier statment on IH and aftermarket wide fronts. I did have on my 1066 a wide front that was not very satisfactory. I don't think an after market wide front would have cured problem. In my opinion 100+ hp tractors equiped with duals and doing heavy draft work should all be 4x4 equiped. These tractors on heavy draft want to go straight ahead always, thus beating the conventional wide front to bits. I broke more spindles on 1066 than I care to remember and it never had a loader. With the increasing numbers on self propelled harvesting equipment (combines, forage harvesters, potato harvesters, etc., I see the conventional tractor over 100 hp disappearing. In my opinion the articulated tractor is far more efficient on heavy draft work. I suspect a 125 hp articulated tractor could also be manufactured for less than the conventional with 4x4.
