This is a topic of much controversy.
My position is that narrow fronts are really not any less stable than wide fronts. Your real stability lies in the rear wheels, which on an M can be set plenty wide for the job.
A 15 degree slope is of no concern for an M, regardless of what the tread is set at. Go ahead and do whatever you want on slopes like that, within reason (in other words, don't go flying along in road gear on hillsides and drop your downhill wheel into a sinkhole, etc).
