Unless his shifter is as worn as mine! The hole thru the shift levr is so worn that a previous owner put a 3/8 bolt thru, takes about 2 minutes to pull the shift lever, line things up and put her back. That's after the 20 minute round trip to get the wrenches and screwdiver, 'cause I never believe it'll get lost between gears again.
