It's difficult to know just what the crack is like without seeing it but it is possible the head gasket will seal it. I have a C that has a crack between the water jacket holes on top of the block all the way along one side. It looks like that side was pushed out slightly from freezing. It looked like the head gasket would seal it from the water going anywhere it shouldn't so with nothing to loose I put the head back on with some sealer and its been fine for three years so far. P.S. It wasn't leaking when I originally took the head of for a valve job so I figured it hadn't been a problem before it shouldn't be now. It seems to be fine. It would bother some to know it was that way but as long as it doesn't leak it doesn't bother me. Give it a try. REM
