504 amp light won't go out

trying to fix a tractor new to me

the amp light stays on when the tractor is revved up, and I'm wondering where to start on this. The tach was replaced and in the process a wire was knocked off or something else was dammaged.

Can the voltage regulator be dammaged by arcing the contacts? How do you check the voltage regulator? if it's bad, will this cause the amp light to stay on?
it's a 504 gas, and just looking at it, I'd swear it has an old type generator on it

need suggestions or a wiring diagram or troubleshooting help of any kind, thanks in advance
