66/86 had a problem with piston slipping position on press fit (extreme press fit by the way) of shaft, perhaps this is what yours did, either reposition or replace the shaft 533286R21 for $250, the 66 early had a different barrel tube than 66late/86, measure positions of bearing cap bores welded on barrel.
