I was thinking about that too when I was going to put a loader on an M that I had. If I ever want to do it again I came up with an idea... Have a machine shop make a plate that bolts to the belt pulley hub and weld a PTO stub shaft on it and mount the pump there. The belt pulley runs around 1000 RPM so if you wanted to run the tractor full throttle all the time you could get a 1000 RPM pump. But I figure loader work is around 1/2 throttle anyway so a 540 pump would work great! Just an idea...
