I know that when I began to restore my 1944 M, I replaced a very brittle steel fuel line without any coils in it. Now I have a freind with a 1943 M and he has a copper fuel line without any coils either. Whether or not coils are the norm from the factory, who knows. I do know that just like many companies that produced war-time materials, IH did use copper and steel fuel lines in 1942-44. No one knows why. Many think that it had something to do with their production of M-1 rifles. I have replaced my fuel line with a rubber one but I will change it back soon to a copper one. This way I'm keeping my M as close to original as possible.
