Greg, go with what fredo told you, but here's my experience just in case. I had an M that started doing exactly what you described. It turned out that the governor tube between the carburetor and the governor was plugged full of dirt so tight that the rod wouldn't move freely. I guess 50 or so years of dirt can sneak up. Also be sure the area behind the governor is clean and not restricting the control rod to the throttle. I have seen wads of grease and dirt built up in there as well. I cleaned everything up and oiled the rod and the M has run fine ever since. Good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario
