By two hot batteries, do you mean new off the shelf or do they just show 12 volts when not loaded. Had a 3 yr old battery that I accidentally shorted hot wire. Showed 12 volts when not loaded, but when put starter load on, would only draw about 2-3 volts. Might be a good idea to load test batteries.
