That's what they are for. I haven't had one apart. But I know on my 560D they have to be in just the right spot or it sends oil over the bypass. Maybe it's just that mine is getting worn out or something is sticking in there. As long as I can get it to stop bypassing, I don't worry about it.

I've often wondered about the newer tractors. As far as I know there is no provision for single acting cylinders? It sure would be handy though.
