How to remove piston rod seal retainer on fast hitch cylinder?

I'm in the process of rebuilding the fast hitch cylinder for my 300 Utility, and am wondering how the metal retainer is removed so I can replace the piston rod O-ring and dust seal? I don't think it's a snap ring, and I don't want to damage the housing or retainer, as I don't think a new retainer came in the rebuild kit. Any help is appreciated! The I&T manual doesn't mention the cylinder.
