On the 282 if the valves are in spec for depth in the head. I set the valves as close to the surface of the head as possible (.002-.004 below the surface). I have overhauled several tractors with this engine and they all start good. I can glow pug my 560 and start it at 10 degrees with out shutting off the loaders PTO pump and have started it at 20 below zero with out being plugged in. As for glow plugs either they work or the don't.
