Bama - We had a couple of similar R-series trucks on the farm when I was growing up. They were slow (55 mph ABSOLUTE top speed!) and not too fuel efficient (4 - 5 mpg loaded). But they were completely reliable and actually kinda fun to drive. Worst thing about them was the original 6 volt electrics - they were constantly plagued with 2-speed shifting problems and dead batteries, especially when operating after dark. However when both were converted to 12 volt alternators, those problems went away. One of the pair (a '56) is STILL in operation as a yard goat at a neighbor's farm, and the frame/hoist from the other has been converted to dump box wagon. You just can't kill 'em!! Incidentally I kinda went down the same path as you - was looking for a 3/4 or 1 ton PU and trailer to haul my Farmalls to a few local shows and pulls. I however stumbled into a deal on a larger truck already equipped with a beavertail equipment rack - for a fraction of the cost of a used pickup. It needs some cosmetic work but mechanically it's in excellent shape. Fortunately also I've got the CDL to operate it legally. Only downsides are it's not an IHC, and my wife won't allow it in the driveway!

The garden was already sprouting when we hooked up the mid-mount shovel cultivators to the Pony. The seed bed was soft enough that the rear end would spin and slowly work its way to the downhill side of the gardens slight incline. From this, we learned our lesson sinc
