broke ring/s?

I guess I screwed up. trying to start a 460D with ether, NOT using the glow plugs because they are all burnt up. I knew better but thought this once...maybe...my 806 starts easily on it! I use the mildest ether I have ever found. I got the tractor to run (rough) but it blows raw fuel out the ex manifold. could I have broken a ring? My assumption is, one ring is broke and not making enough compression in that cylinder to burn the fuel. Any thoughts?
