The end of the shift lever in the tranny that moves the forks is most like warn like mine and that lets it get out of place needs to be welded up and ground back down should look like a half ball on the end. in the short tower ther should be 2 soft plugs that hold the shift lever in place drive on one a little and the other should come out then drive on the shaft that you see and you should drive the other soft plug out, don't drop that shaft into tranny, after you get that 3/8 shaft out the shift lever should lift out so you can see the end.
