Kendall, You had replied to my question the other day regarding a 44 Farmall A distributor, and offered guidance on a static timing adjustment. Using a light I can't get the marks to line up using all the travel of the distributor...at best it's 30-40 degrees away from dead center. I haven't tried the static timing procedure yet, and won't be able to for a week or so. One reply to my previous questiong suggests that 30+ degrees is normal with the engine running...do you agree? Seems to me that the timing marks should line up perfectly since the spec is DC 1-4...not 30 degrees before or after DC. Which brings up another question. Using the light, and with the flywheel turning counter-clockwise viewing from the rear into the hand-hole of the clutch housing, the mark is 30 degrees further counter-clockwise than DC, which tells me it is firing 30 degrees late, or retarded by 30 degrees. Does that make sense?..or is it 30 degrees advanced? Thanks for your help.
