Which way

Help please! I'm working on a tractor for a friend and I need to know which direction the motor is supposed to turn, it's a 1957 350 utility. He had the starter rewound after burning it out. and I believe it's now cranking the motor backwards. Looking at the radiator the motor turns counterclockwise which doesn't make sense,
all indicators tell me that it is wrong. 1)the fan wants to push the hot air from the engine through the radiator. The dirt on the fanblades is on the wrong side as if it was turning the other way all it's life. 2) I get suction at the exhaust pipe and pressure at the carb. I also cranked it by hand till I was at top dead center on #1 cyl and turned the engine over while watching the valves go up and down. and it is sucking and blowing when it should be blowing and sucking. I had him bring the starter back to the shop where he had it repaired. and they say it 's fine but that there was a left hand and a right hand and they're sure that he has the right one.
I say that they put the wrong bendix in and wired it to run backwards. can someone tell me which way a 1957 350 utility is supposed to turn looking at the radiator from the front. I say that it should turn clockwise.
I would really apprieciate it if someone could help me I'm going to tell him to bring the starter back and have them make it right and I don't want to look like an idiot.
