Well, gary7, you will just have to decide which answer you want to believe because at least 2 of these answers are very different. Cubs were 6 volt from 1947 and during the 1962 model year, the change was made AT THE FACTORY to 12 volt generators. During the 1976 model year, the change was made to 12 volt alternators. So not many Cubs were originally made with alternators. 6 volt Cubs are positive ground. All the 12 volt models are negative ground.
