NEED SERIOUS HELP ON A 400 SER. #

Theres this 400 near our area that we are 95% into buying. We recenty got a 450, so a 400 would look good with it. Now this 400 has been overhauled some time ago, runs like a top, and has a cable loader on it. This guy is seeling it cheap.
What I was puzzled at was the serial number is 2Bsomething. This number auctually has A letter for the second spot in the serial number I think it was 2B906 but it could be wrong. THIS LETTER IS NOT AT THE END AS IF TO MEAN AN ACCESSORY. IT IS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SERIAL NUMBER!!!!
Please help me out on this puzzling 400.
