Just an idea for you to check. Those check valves I think have left hand threads, but you still turn counter clockwise to open them and clockwise to close them. Reading your post reminded me of a kid that got turned around thinking they were left hand threads and had them screwed all the way the wrong way and couldn't figure out why it leaked. So just treat them like they are right handed threads even though they aren't. If that isn't the case then they need fixed on the inside. I never had one that leaked before so not sure what you would need to fix them.
