Don't worry, we all do stupid things. A few years ago, in my dumber stages of life, our H was not charging. I figured it was the regulater, so i got a new one, and hooked it up. Still didn't work, and so I looked at diagrams some, and decided something needed to be grounded. I grounded it and melted down my brand new $40 regulator..... later turned out that it was the generator to blame, and so i put the original cut-out back on.... after buying yet ANOTHER regulator.
