Thanks, Michael. I'm not worried so much about the timing. I'm prepared to trust the instructions to set that up (When all else fails . . .) and tweak it later. I'm more concerned with the high idle. I rebuilt a Super C last summer and (ain't I some proud!) she fired up first time I tried 'er. Trouble was she was running at about 3000 RPM! When I did get her reined in, I did basically what you suggest with the timing--did it by ear and feel at low idle, just like in the old days. Checked it with a light, just to see if I'd lost my touch and was pretty pleasantly surprised. Found out that light isn't near as bright on six volts!
