Coming from my Allis D-12 my experience with a "hydrostatic" (I think that is what it is called) is limited at best. Helping out a neighbour (who since has gone on holidays) and he has this IH624 tractor he uses for yard work - it has this shift mechanism on the right hand side of the steering wheel that allows me to go from forward to reverse with a flick of the lever (forwards or back) - he gave me a crash course but this thing was only 10 seconds of it! - it seems to work fine (especially moving bales around with the loader) but I am wondering if I am using it correctly - I don't want to screw up his transmission! - anything I should be wary of?
