Thanks for the kind words Gordon! 30 amps charge into a low battery is normal with an alternator. It may do this for 2 - 3 hours of running before the battery comes up all the way. However when the battery is full the ammeter should show only 2 - 4 amps of charge at governed RPM. Any higher than this will overcharge and eventually ruin the battery. If you have an accurate DC voltmeter, take a reading directly across the battery with the motor running at at governed speed. If meter reads less then 14.5 volts or so, everything is fine. If it shows >15 volts, you are overcharging.
